In 2023, Turkey emerges as the top exporter of wheat flour, dominating nearly a quarter of the global market. The report reveals how Turkey and a few other countries are spearheading this trade.
Wheat flour, a ubiquitous ingredient in numerous culinary traditions, serves as a staple food in many countries. Its export is a significant aspect of global trade, providing insights into agricultural productivity and food security. In 2023, the global landscape of wheat flour exports was dominated by a few key players.
Turkey, in particular, stands out with a substantial 22.16% of the global export share, reinforcing its role as the leading wheat flour exporter. This surge is attributed to strategic agricultural practices and robust trade agreements.
Following Turkey, Kazakhstan and Germany also maintain strong positions, exporting 8.38% and 8.31% respectively. Uzbekistan and Egypt follow with shares of 6.60% and 5.90%. Together, these countries form the backbone of the wheat flour export market in 2023.
Despite the dominant positions of the top exporters, numerous other countries contribute to the global market, collectively constituting over 50% of the total exports. These include countries like Poland, Hungary, and Romania, each with shares less than 1%, labeled as 'the rest'. Their contributions highlight a diverse and competitive marketplace.
The wheat flour export market in 2023 reflects a clear hierarchy dominated by a few major exporters. However, the presence of numerous smaller players ensures a competitive and dynamic market, vital for global food security.
